Welwitschie podivná

Welwitschie podivná (Welwitschia mirabilis; také velvičie) je vytrvalá stálezelená rostlina. Je jediným žijícím zástupcem rodu welwitschie i čeledi welwitschiovité. Čeleď přísluší do fylogeneticky velmi prastarého řádu liánovcotvaré, kterému jsou nejblíže příbuzné jehličnany z řádu borovicotvarých. Jedná se o extrémně odolné a dlouhověké rostliny.
