Opera je druh západního divadla, jehož základní složkou je hudba a dramatické role jsou ztvárněny zpěváky. Takové „dílo“ (doslovný překlad italského slova „opera“) je obvykle výsledkem spolupráce skladatele a libretisty a spojuje řadu scénických umění, jako je herectví, scéna, kostýmy a někdy i tanec nebo balet.
