In Greek mythology, Eumaeus (/juːˈmiːəs/; Ancient Greek: Εὔμαιος Eumaios meaning 'searching well') was Odysseus's slave, swineherd, and friend. His father, Ctesius, son of Ormenus, was king of an island called Syra (present-day Syros in the Greek islands of the Cyclades).
