Potkan (Rattus norvegicus) je velký myšovitý hlodavec rodu Rattus často zaměňovaný s krysou obecnou (Rattus rattus). Jako synantropní druh žije převážně v blízkosti lidských sídel, kde často škodí požíráním semen obilnin; může být také přenašečem nemocí. Potkan se v přírodě dožívá dvou let, v zajetí třech až šesti let.
