Paranthropus

Paranthropus je rod vyhynulých homininů, žijící v pliocénu a pleistocénu (asi před 2,7–1,3 miliony let) ve východní a jižní Africe. Jeho zástupci byli současníky prvních lidí a do vývoje moderního člověka nezasáhli. Takto byli vnímáni již od prvních objevů, jak ukazuje rodové jméno, odvozené z řeckých slov para – vedle a ánthropos – člověk.
