Je to levostranný přítok Vltavy, vznikající soutokem Vydry a Křemelné na Šumavě u Čeňkovy Pily. Délka toku činí 111,7 km. Plocha povodí měří 3840,0 km². Název řeky je pravděpodobně předslovanského původu.
