Multituberkuláti jsou starou vývojovou linií savců zcela vyhynulou již na konci eocénu (asi před 34 miliony let). Poprvé se objevili ve střední juře (asi před 168 miliony let), což z nich dělá nejdéle se vyskytující savčí skupinu. Žili přes 130 miliónů let a jsou často považováni za jedny z nejúspěšnějších skupin savců v celé evoluční historii.
