Mitragyna speciosa je druh rostliny z čeledi mořenovité. Je to tropický strom se vstřícnými jednoduchými listy a žlutavými květy v kulovitých květenstvích. Plodem jsou drobné tobolky v kulovitém plodenství. Strom se vyskytuje v nížinných tropických deštných lesích Indočíny a jihovýchodní Asie.
