Eben je velmi tvrdé a těžké dřevo černé barvy s jemnou strukturou. Pochází z tropických stromů rodu tomel (Diospyros) z čeledi ebenovitých. Používá se k výrobě nábytku, hudebních nástrojů (resp. jejich částí jako hmatníků), ozdobných předmětů, intarzii či v řezbářství.
